چکیده

In this paper we deene two compositional net semantics for the stochastic process algebra Markovian Process Algebra (MPA), based on a class of stochastic Petri nets. The rst semantics is operational in style and is deened by structural induction. We prove that both the functional and performance interleaving semantics are retrievable: given a process term E, the reachability graph and the Markov chain obtained from the net for E are the same as we obtain directly for E, according to MPA speciication. Then, we present the other net semantics, which is deened in a denotational style. This additional semantics is proposed only to clarify that all the intended concurrency is expressed in the operational net model. Finally, we comment on an integrated speciica-tion strategy for concurrent systems, which is available also because of the operational net semantics described here.

Extended Markovian Process Algebra: A Case Study

Extended Markovian Process Algebra (EMPA) is a process algebra suitable for expressing functional and performance aspects of concurrent systems. It is equipped with an operational interleaving semantics, a functional semantics, a Markovian semantics and an operational net semantics. In this paper we apply an integrated approach based on EMPA for mod-eling and analyzing concurrent systems to the...

Modeling and Analyzing Concurrent Systems with Mpa

Process algebras are one of the main tools for modeling and analyzing concurrent systems. However, they can be used to describe only the functional aspect of system behavior. Recently, the relevance of integrating performance evaluation within the process of speciication, design and implementation of concurrent systems has been widely recognized. Hence, an eeort has been made in order to handle...

A New Synchronization in Finite Stochastic Petri Box Calculus

The Petri Box Calculus (PBC) combines two well known paradigms of the design of concurrent systems: process algebras and Petri nets. In our first proposal of sPBC (stochastic PBC) [12] we defined a Markovian extension of finite PBC, i.e., we had a Markovian process algebra for which both an operational and a denotational (based on stochastic Petri nets) semantics were defined. Our goal in this ...

Reduction semantics in Markovian process algebra

Stochastic (Markovian) process algebra extend classical process algebra with probabilistic exponentially distributed time durations denoted by rates (the parameter of the exponential distribution). Defining a semantics for such an algebra, so to derive Continuous Time Markov Chains from system specifications, requires dealing with transitions labeled by rates. With respect to standard process a...
